We asked you views on the upcoming La Raza conference.
All one needs to do is read their organization documents to conclude that they are an unamerican group." - James, San Diego
I think that La Raza may be somewhat of a separatist group and that the candidates should not justify their existence. Latinos who are here legally should have the same concerns as anyone else here legally. To say that La Raza represents Latino concerns is to acknowledge that that their concerns may conflict with the rest of America's concerns. - Chris, San Diego
This is horrible that council members would do this, they obviously do not read what they endorse. "The Race" organization should be condemned not honored. This is a very sad day for San Diego. - Guy, Bonsall
Though La Raza is an organization that could be considered ethnocentric, it is only natural that such an organization would represent latinos since they are an underrepresented part in national politics. If Caucasians were underrepresented they would do the same. - Ricardo, San Diego
It is easier to engage in name-calling and embrace the views of deceitful radio talk-show hosts than to think. Senators Obama and McCain are doing the right thing by addressing the National Council of La Raza. People who object to the existence of groups like the NCLR do not understand U.S history and the experience of Latinos and other minorities in this country, or they just don't care. - Enrique, Encinitas
la raza is similar to the kkk, but with many lawyers and a brown skin agenda. it is all about the promotion of hispanic/mexican/chicano peoples to the exclusion of others. the idea of a "brown race" only organization receiving acknowledgement, by our presidential candidates, is pandering at it's lowest level. next thing you know, it will be a "skinhead raza" convention, in the san diego convention center, expecting recognition by our elected officials. time will tell. God help us through this stupidity. - David, Chula Vista
La Raza menas the Race, and it's not American. It's all about the Mexican race and wanting to take the southwestern United States and make it their own Country, not even wanting to be a part of Mexico. they are a terrorist organization with the Brown Berets as their troops and the American Friends of the Border as their political wing. We need to stop them NOW. - Douglas, National City
We know the agenda for the illegal aliens and the La Raza crowd are to try and take away California and several other states, it's not going to be that difficult for them when our own government is holding the door open for them to do so. I have lost respect for the governor and also the mayor of San Diego. They are kissing some major A** to get the latino vote, as well as the presidential nominees. Very disappointing to watch what was once a great state go into to a state of disrepair and poverty. - Lisa
Of course they are a racist group. They state it by the name they choose. They are not "for" white people. The only people not banded together by race to expand or protect their political position are white people. Understand that the very wealthy rulers of this country do not represent, or reflect the interests of, white people as a group. They represent the interests of their economic class, the rich, regardless of race. - Ed
