Officer Pleads Not Guilty in Shooting

We asked you about the off-duty officer who shot at a woman and her 8-year-old son.

I am relieved charges have been filed against the officer involved. I feel that is appropriate and the next stage is an open, fair trial.  -  Lee, Pacific Beach

Am I the only one confused? An Off duty Coronado Police Office Shoots Ex- San Diego Charger Foley and gets NOTHING???? He even still has his job! If this isn't a double standard. What is????  -  Nicholas, Mission Hills

I am amazed that Dumanis would finally do the right thing. I appreciate and respect police officers. But even they make mistakes and should always be held accountable for their actions. I believe both parties made huge errors in judgement and both need pay the price.  -  Ken, Oceanside

I definitely think the officer involved in the shooing in Oceanside should face charges as well. He was off duty and total wrong to draw a weapon and then fire it into a car with a woman and her young child. Why should he be above the law? Yes he should be prosecuted as well.  -  Cynthia, Vista

This female drug addled maniac attempted to commit bodily harm to an officer, whether he was off duty or not! I believe that he had every right to protect himself and deploy his weapon!  -  Dan and Cindy, Santee

I am in support of the DA. This is the kind of accountability we need to have to ensure our police officers are not using excessive force. Although the victim may have committed road rage I don't think anything other than endangering the officer's well being deserves being shot at, as well as her innocent passenger.  -  Scott, Normal Heights

I am happy with the decision although I am very surprised. It seems in the past that the SDPD has had a blank check on shooting whoever they want. I think this is overdue. We need to put a stop to this indiscriminate shooting. Just as the public has to obey the law, so do police.  -  Nancy, San Diego

I don't know who to be more afraid of anymore, the cops, or the robbers, I guess now with this shooting of a 8 year old boy, I am more afraid of the police, I have three children and I don't know what to tell them, I am truly worried that we are slowing converting into a Third world country, Whats next ? Police beating down civilians ?? Oops , oh yeah that's already happened too.  -  Brandon, San Diego

I have felt from the start this officer should be prosecuted. If not, then NO one should be prosecuted for ROAD RAGE again. That is all it was plain and simple. A normal citizen would have been arrested right away. This man had NO right to fire into that car.  -  C. Dunaway, Fallbrook

Good! I'm glad he's being charged. Road rage or not, he has no right to pull out a gun and use self-defense as an excuse! How many of us experience road rage and pull no guns at all?? Because he had a badge he felt like abusing that power--putting other drivers at risk. What's more, that she had drugs in her possession is AFTER the fact. Is that how police intend to put law-breakers in jail by shooting at them and their children before they find out citizens are breaking it?? I'm glad charges against the officer will NOT set a precedent for! other power-abusing police officers. I hope Ms. Silva and her son get justice!  -  Norma, Normal Heights

The officer involved should be prosecuted. What gives him the right to pull his weapon and fire especialy w/o even identifying himself as a police officer.Besides, who is crazy enough to shoot someone over a car accident.Seems like the police feel like they can get away with murder.I also feel poor training and psych evaluations has played a very big part in this as well.  -  Jeff, North County
