State Budget Cuts

The governor slashed wages for state employees today and we asked for your reactions.

I think the Governer, needs to stop making buget cuts, because thats what is causing this already bad economy to get even worse!  -  Nicole, El Cajon

The man should take the wages away from himself and the rest of the people who are really responsable for the budget maylay. See if they can live on that amount for a while. Why should they get their regular money.  -  Connie, Vista

This is so typical of politicians. They can't pass a budget so they hurt the little guy. I don't see any of our legislators cutting their pay and benefits.  -  Brian, Fallbrook

Why does the govenor have to do alot of cuts? Right now we have enough problems with foreclosures, economy, and budget cuts. 1st arnold cuts funding for schools and now salary cuts without jobs people are losing their homes, credit and without jobs or not making enough money residents are having hard times putting food on the table with high prices.  -  Cruz, Oceanside

I believe today's actions were unfair and not well thought out. It's enough that our economy is down and gas prices are on the increase now we face the additional stress of loss jobs and trying to make ends meet. My thoughts go out to those who have lost their jobs.  -  L. Williams

I think its hidious that the Governor would cut the wages of state workers to the federal minimum wage and lay off over 22,000 interim workers. Instead he should have cut the legislatures pay or made them go without pay until they could finally get off their butts and approve the state budget. The people who are working for the state should not bear the brunt of the legislatures inability to approve a state budget.  -  LeighAnne, Carlsbad

I think the govenor should cut the politians wages and notthe state employees. The politians would surely pass the budget a lot fastr if they were making minimum eage!!!  -  Teri, Carlsbad

The governor should withhold the saleries of law makers & anyone else responsible for coming up with the budget, until they do the job their paid for. Leave the state employees alone. They shouldn't be the scapegoat.  -  Walt, San Marcos

I don't know how anyone in San Diego, or all of California for that matter, could survive on minimum wage. I bring home double plus that of minimum wage and still struggle. I understand that we have a state budget but so many will suffer from this and it surely will NOT help our economy.  -  Christine, Pacific Beach

It seems like the same people who are moaning and groaning over losing their jobs or taking a pay cut are the same people who want to protest higher taxes. The state is obviously in a fiscal crisis, so something has to be done. You don't want your taxes raised so now you see what the alternative is. So be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.  -  Greg, Otay Ranch

Although I am a young teen, and I am not too keen on this subject, I feel that our governor's action is detrimental to our society. He may be thinking about our economy, though he has not taken into consideration of how his signature on that very important paper will determine people's futures. Especially with these high gas prices and scarcity of work, how will they get by on $6.55? I hope this is over soon. Thanks for taking the time to read this.  -  Chrissy, Escondido

I'm getting tired of hearing how we need to cut money from so many places and we still can't balance the budget. First education takes a huge blow and now state workers are out of of a job? What a joke...why doesn't the governor take a pay cut to help balance the budget?  -  Karla, San Diego

He may have 25-30inch biceps, but he sure is really weak! Why don't he start cutting from the TOP instead of the bottom!!! I'm sure state employees who make 90k to 400k a year could afford a little pay cut more than the ones who make 24k-40k!  -  Vince, Pacific Beach

I bet if the State Legislatures pay got cut to $6.55 an hour they would pass a budget.  -  Rob, Ramona

The Governor has no right to take our money away. Some of us can barely pay our bills, and with him making us have min. wage, is a disaster. The real reason though isn't just because he wants to pay bills, is it for his cause. If anyone has put any research into this, they would have found out what a racist governor we have. First came the bill saying that all students would be taught at the best level they could, and would send moeny to help. Yet i ask, where was that money? That money was being used to try and establish more security at the border, or and now this, he claims he! doesn't want to have any illegals in this country, yet he came in illegal. That money will be used to establish some of his actions. The governor is using our moeny and raising taxes for his advatnage. Like Bush, i ask the same question, when will we get rid of him.  -  Steve, City Heights

I have many friends that work for the state of california and this is just a slap in the face from an experienced actor playing governor and not having a clue of finance. Now we will see if he is re-elected. He should stick to what he knows which is bad acting and not running a state government. All those that voted for him should see by now that they made a bad decision. Including his faithful movie fans.  -  Keith, El Cajon

Well if the governor wanted to cut pay he should have started with the state legislators.... let them know how it feels to scrap by on $6.55 an hour.  -  Joe, Imperial Beach

I think that the Gov & all of CA legislators should be highly ashamed. They knew of the impending deadline, procastronated, paid attention to their own interests & left the people who pay their salaries high & dry. I think their salaries should have been the first to be cut and they should be permanently laid off. We can donate their salaries to the state budget! Can we vote them out? Congress should also be disbanded. We can rule ourselves and do a better job!  -  Carrie, La Mesa

I think the legislatures should cut all the stupid programs before salaries. Also maybe they should cut their own pay first.  -  Dan, Imperial Beach
