Sales Tax Hike

We asked you about the governor's proposal of adding a penny to the state's sales tax.

Time for a new governor.  -  Donald, Normal Heights

I have no problem paying taxes, even having them increased, as long as the money is used efficiently and wisely. I do wish our government's spending practices were more transparent to the every day person. If you can't afford to go shopping because of the 1% increase, you probably shouldn't be shopping in the first place. We are a country of excess and now we're paying for it.  -  Nicole, Golden Hills

I would pay a two cent tax hike if we could get Arnold out of office.  -  Ed, Escondido

According to the report aired, the governor wants to MANDATE a sales tax increaes of 1%, but ASK state agencies to reduce spending. Tax payers always have to pay for mis-management of funds. If we are going to have a mandatory tax increase, then we should also have mandatory spending cuts, not just request cuts. Since we earn our pay, they should earn our taxes.  -  Leonard, Spring Valley

I think he should raise the tax. We already going through an economic crisis.  We don't need another one on our shoulders.  -  Denisse, San Diego

A temporary increase in the sales tax? Don't fall for it. Not only will the tax be permanent, the tax will fall short of the endless spending programs concocted by the buffoons in our state legislature. Slash and burn the size of this government. Stop stealing from the hard-working taxpayers who don't want the bloated vision of Sacramento.  -  Mark, Rancho Penasquitos

I believe that the governor shouldn't rise the taxes. I believe he should get the money from an alternative source, such as from casinos. Let make the rich casinos & oil companies pay for Californians.  -  Jazhiel, Chula Vista

i heard that there is going to be a sale increase why doesnt the state lower gas prices and taxes on home because we have alot of crisis going around the state thanks.  -  Cruz, Oceanside

No sales tax increase, no matter what. Governments never have enough money to spend, in their opinion. A detailed disclosure of how much is spent on different budget items would greatly anger the overwhelming majority of citizens. When governments "cut spending", they purposely try to cause as much pain as possible, to keep citizens from asking for spending cuts again.  Ed, Scipps Ranch

I wonder what the cities, counties and state have done with their sales tax windfall from the sale of gasoline? If the price per gallon went from $2 awhile back to $4,then didn't the sales tax revenues from this double? Why doesn't ask about this?  -  Bill, El Cajon

I'm sick of tired of paying more and more taxes  and watching sacramento cut money where is counts (education, healthcare)  Why is it that every time the dumb politicians screw up  state budget it's the tax payers who have to pay for it?? I am so tired of paying more and more taxes.  Why is some states get along just fine with less taxes and a lower cost of living- but California just cant seem to manage? While I do agree that ANYONE could do better than  Gray Davis, Arnold is still in WAY over his head.  I would say he should go back to being an actor, but he sucked at that too.  I say, let's get someone in that office what knows what the heck their doing and cares about California.
