Shawne Merriman Out

We asked about the Chargers linebacker's decision to get surgery and miss the remainder of the season.

I have been a huge supporter of shawne merriman. he is by far the most versatile defensive player in the nfl.. A power house of sorts on the defense. I am deeply saddend by his leaving for the season but by doing this he can have more years to come in his NFL career.  he will be better then before.. and we all have to support him.  i have been for him since hsi NFl career started out and i will be a fan for years to come. If it was up to me i'd sing a contract for him now.. for up till 2012 because he is a usefulplayer being the powerhouse that he is... I do hope he has a speedy recovery and well... withprayers lights will be out for all QB's but ours next year.  --  Patrick, Allied Gardens

It's a very intellegent move Sean has decided. Tear can be repaired but a rip or torn off is much more involved and he may never come back to play. So kudos to Sean. GO CHARGERS! Chargers will become stronger because Sean is there watching. GO CHARGERS !  --  Arsacio, San Diego

While it's ufortunate to lose Shawne for the season, I can't but feel he's made the correct decision to have the surgury performed on his knee to allow for a better chance at playing at 100% next year and potentially lenghtening his career.  --  Matt, El Cajon

I think the Chargers have a slight chance of making it to the championships as long as the team members have strong leadership other than Norv Turner. When I lived in Washington D.C. he was a complete JINX, then he haunted me when I moved to Northern Ca. and once again a JINX coaching the Raiders. I moved to San Diego last year and cant believe how naive those that decided to pick him as a coach must be, is he just really cheap?? Unless something happens and Norv Turner steps down Chargers will have the same record as the Raiders and Redskins held when Turner was! their head coach.  --  Renee, Carmel Valley

I hope the chargers can make it without SHAWN. he is one of the best player on the team, and he is our only hope for a championship!  --  John, Eastlake

I know that shawn is an awsome player he is very strong, and a leader... it is devastating that he will not be performing this season..i think that D line will need to step it up if they want to pull through a good season i wish them the best of luck.....GO STEELERS LOL  --  Justin, Chula Vista
