Debate Delay?

John McCain wants to delay the Friday presidential debate and next week's vice-presidential debate because of the economic crisis.

I think delaying the presidential debate is a mistake. I believe McCain going to Washington to deal with the financial crises is an excuse...a smokescreen if you will. Obama's public speaking skills are readily apparent. I'm sure the debates are going to pose a problem for McCain so he is looking for an excuse to put them off as long as possible.  --  ***, Alpine

After seeing Gov. Palin's interview with CBS earlier I am more than baffled as to what she does know. Sen. McCain said he wanted a VP that was ready on day one. She always says on the stump that she is going to shake things up. Well when asked by Katie from CBS for 3 example of what he would do to revamp wall street, she just laughed and said she would get back to her. She is kind of like a high school student that didnt do her homework. They say the media is unfair, so no interviews, I thought this hockey mom was tough.  --  John, 4s Ranch

Mc Cain has the same theroy as bush ..bush proposes a 700 billion doller plan to fix something that he screwed up in the first place...mccain is in no situaton to be president like obama said being president requires you to muliti task the way i see it mc cain can't live up to those standards  --  Justin, Chula Vista

I think as a Senetor he is doing the right thing by not campaining, as a Presidental Canidate I think it that he is making a hugh mistake. This is the time he needs to be out making a sttaement and a plan to recover from this.  --  Bill, Ramona

Seems Mc Cain is always guided by what is good for the country, while Obama always seems to do what he thinks is good for himself. There is a patern here don't you think.  --  James, Bankers Hill

The campaign season is too long - it is a shame that it takes a financial crisis to get our politicians back to work!  --  Susan, Oceanside

This is the time to show leadership. At least McCain is willing to step to the plate eventhough he knows he will get "burn" either way. "Debates", to me, are just photo-op! Reactions to what are really going on in our daily live is more realistic. We need some one who is one of us, not someone who live in "cloud 9".  --  Nikki, San Diego

I am not sure what the benefit. He nor Obama sit on the Senate Banking committee. So they can not attend the closed door meeting. He has already admitted he understand the economy. He should be on the road telling the American people what he is going to do in office. Maybe, Sara can answer some questions too.  --  John, 4s Ranch

It sounds nice, but in actuality it's just an excuse to regroup before the debate. If he were to become president there will be times when he will have to deal with multiple complex situations at once. He needs to show he can step up instead of pandering to us.  --  Nicole, Golden Hill

McCain has done the right thing and is putting the financial future of our country ahead of the election. Obama has balked at the idea since he is more interested in his being seen on TV and is not truly interested in helping the average American.  --  Jeff, Oceanside

I feel it is a great thing to do(Put the campaign on hold). We are in a very large financial crisis. This bill should be looked at very carefully. Remember, we are paying for it. I feel it will help but how long? I hope to goodness there is a little pressure put on the investors to work with troubled clients... within reason. I know there are good people who are having tough times because of employment and income, not the loan they have. They have lived in the home a long time and are now simply having trouble with the flow of money. I feel it is very smart of John McCain to put EVERYTHING aside.  --  Stephen, San Diego

I think McCain is showing true leadership by putting his campaign on hold to deal with the nation's worst economic crisis in 70 years. While McCain is showing where his priority is (the economic stability of the country), Obama is showing where his #1 priority is...the same #1 priority he has had his entire time in the Senate...his campaign for President.  --  Jim, Carmel Valley
