We asked your thoughts on the proposed budget cuts in San Diego.
City, county and state government entities suffer from the same arogant and expensive habits that the auto industry and others are being crushed by. Wage and benefit packages that are no longer affordable. Outragous pensions, double paychecks and cheaply buying years of service are not sustainable expectations. Declare bankruptcy and creat an acceptable environment to serve ALL of us. -- Eric
I think if it's legally possible to decrease the pension plans, they need to do so. It seems that this is the core issue that's been a thorn in our side for years now. As it is, we don't have enough fire or police resources. As for the libraries, we need them for people who use them everyday (I also use them on occasion). As for the parks, we need to keep them up to maintain our livelihood...tourists. The pensions go way beyond what is needed to retire on comfortably. -- Corrinna
Not one library that our children attend should be closed. If the Mayor and staff brainstorm, get opinions from residents, etc, they will come up with a different ways to cut budget. -- Charles
I think it's ridiculous to close out library when this is a place where everyone (children, adult...) go to check out a book, video...etc... If all of the politicians in office get a paycheck as normal American workers or base on their experience then we would not have problem with the budget crisis... I believe Politician in office is over paid and underworked. -- Teena
Instead of closing the libraries the city should quit tearing up recently repaved roads just so they can pave them again (to use up their budget), quit overpaying city works to sit around doing nothing so they can later collet outrageous pensions, and wasting money on things like Toilet2Tap that citizens already said they didn't want. Sometimes I wonder if our city leaders have any sense at all? -- Mike
Regarding the closure of the OB Library, it is a shame that no one is willing to sacrifice for the good of the city. Most residents are selfish. We cannot make deep cuts in emergency services after all. -- Greg
I don't think they should close the libary. It's important to the children to use it. They should fight not to close them down. What were these people thinking to close them. If my libary close I be sad and unhappy. -- Susana
They want children to succeed in school but they want to close libraries and recreation centers. Most people don't understand that children who actually want to do good and stay out of trouble rely on these places to be open for them. I hope they don't close these places. -- Vanessa
Cutting back on our community's primary public facilities and services is not an acceptable alternative to fiscal responsibility. This City Government is finally suffering from the immoral choices of its past and is now faced with crucial decisions. Cutting on services to the people who have supported this corrupt and irresponsible government for the last decade is NOT an option. Mayor Sanders...look somewhere else for your budget cuts! Last time a government starting closing libraries and banning books...it wasn't so good for them. -- Tony
I think is is a bad idea to close the library's because it is a place were everyone can learn and have fun.It would be a shame to see these local resorces be wasted. -- Liam
I think it is horrible that they are talking about closing libraries. There has to be other ways to cut money from the state. Taking away money from libraries, fire departments, police stations and schools is ridiculous! We need these structures to better our communities. -- Andrea
Of all the things in this city, why close a library? A place where all people can go to broaden their minds... why not close a Starbucks or a Jack in the Box? A library is a place for people of all ages to go and be educated; to close something like that would be a tremendous step down in our state's progression forward. -- Hayley
