Fire Pits Saved

An anonymous donor has stepped forward to keep the fire pits on San Diego beaches.

$260,000 donated to save the fire pits at the beach? Talk about somebody with their head up their butts! Couldn't this money be better spent keeping a local library open, at least for a day or two a week? How can the joy of children experiencing the joy of a fire at the beach compare with the joy of having a local library open for learning and neighborhood events for children? How is needlessly pumping more CO2 into the atmosphere more important than keeping open libraries and other social services vital to local communities? The old dude on your segment who thinks somebody has their heads up their butts sho! uld check where his own head is. -- Covellite

I think that's great that someone cared so much to take action and I hope that it's not the last time someone will. I just want to thank our secret Santa. Thank you very much and I wish nothing but the best for you. Have a very merry Christmas. -- Rosalba

I don't understand why someone would donate $200,000 plus for fire rings. Donate it to needy families or animals that need care/food. We need to help the less fortunate in this tough economy. -- Patrick

Thank you to the hero that saved the fun at beaches that man is a hero in my book. -- Robert

Regarding the secret donor and the fire pits, I think Mayor Sanders has double dipped long enough with his current salary and pension from the San Diego Police Department..maybe he too can donate his yearly salary to sponsor a library? Just a thought... -- Tony

How are taking out fire pits from the beach helping the city's budget. its not like it cost the city money to run them. -- Nate

i think that donation is really cool i cant think of how the fire pits affect the state budget to begin with in the first palace.. -- Jessica

It is heartwarming to know that there is someone out there who, unlike our leaders, know the value of tradition and has plain old love of our community. It certainly also helps that he/she has the financial means to put that love and value into an act that would serve to protect a core feature of our San Diego culture. I think a key aspect of being a leader is to understand and protect the traditions and signature features of your community culture. It is too bad that was not the case with our leadership. THANK YOU whoever you are for saving tradition!! - Wendy
