Red Light Cameras

We asked what you thought of them.

I actually haven't had problems with the red light cameras since they came back. Yet I'm currently waiting with bated breath on a picture of me supposedly running through a red light. The reality? I entered the intersection just as it turned yellow but got stuck in the middle of it when the car in front of me slowed down. Did I run a red light? No. Just got stuck in the intersection as it switched to red & saw the lights of the camera flash. Whether or not I'm in support of the cameras will depend on if I get a ticket in the mail for this. If I do, you can bet I'll be fighting it. -- Kymberrly

I received a red light ticket in Escondido for turning right on a red light. I will NOT shop in Escondido again. The ticket is costing me over 470.00 (with traffic school charges) I did not run a red light at an intersection. I did make a right turn at an empty intersection without coming to a complete stop. I did brake and you can see on the video that I did, just not long enough. This fine is way in excess for the violation I commited. -- Eileen

As far as the cameras improve the safety of the general public, they are wonderful. But the outrageously high fines represent government excess at its worst. Effective punishments should be reasonable and appropriate. -- Paul

Why would you care at all about the traffic cameras if you were abiding the law? It seems any measure that can force California drivers to focus more on the way they are driving is a good thing. The only people that are crying are those that are getting cited....give me a break! -- Jon

The red light cameras will help the city and county get more revenue from the taxpayers. But the question really is...is it doing the city and such any good. Is it saving lives, making a better society? Or is it putting money in the cities pocketbook that they desperately need for all the stupid decisons they make? Seriously, where does the profit go? -- Storrie

I don't really think those cameras are working properly. I have notice the "red light" on washinton street taking pictures to some cars where there as not been a violation. what if the cameras are not working properly? can you appeal that for the traffic ticket? -- Israel

Have you noticed that most people complaining about red light cameras are those who have been cauyght and probably run more lights elsewhere. I think more would be even better. Same with cell phone user, should be stopped and heavier fines. -- James

Those who complain are likely the ones who drive unsafely and receive the citations. There should not only be more red light cameras, but cameras that document and fine drivers who fail to use their turn-signals. -- Travis

Let's show the city leaders that we don't like the Red Light Cameras - with enough signatures we could qualify an initative to ban them in San Diego. -- James

I got a ticket from the red light camera installed in vista, at intersection of shadowridge and sycamore. I got it while making a legal right turn. i have been driving for last eight years and never got a single ticket. this ticket was totally wrong. -- Fareeha
