Gitmo Closing

We asked your views on President Obama's plan to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay.

Do your journalists understand that suspect means innocent until proven guilty? Or did they personally investigate each of these individuals and decided they were guilty? Balanced news, balanced views my ass! -- Jill

Mr. President, why are you putting us in further danger? -- Ellie

Great idea due it would saving millions of dollars due 2 we do not need that base for 243 prisoner am should that the military will keep close watch on it NOW look it the bright side Camp Pendelton have the same why not same Money -- Eve

I know that the prisoners that are in Gitmo must be held somewhere. The people wanted change so they got it. The bottom line is that these prisoners need to go back to Iraq. they do not deserve to be place in the Brig at Camp Pendelton or the Brig at MCAS Miramar. Or any other brig or stockade in the United States. it "would be very irresponsible to close this terrorist detainee facility" before answering such important questions as where the detainees would be sent. President Obama's actions today are insulting to the United States and they will jeopardize the countries ability to get intelligence about terrorist plans or to prevent attacks. -- Pat

What an extremely bad idea to bring these detainees to American soil furthermore mentioning Pendleton & Miramar as possible sites. We are already volatile since we are a military town and a border city. A border city that already needs to be concerned with the escalating violence in Tijuana.. we already have our hands full with that mess, why overload us with unwanted detainees? How scary. -- Silvia

I feel it is very hippocritical of Bilbray, Issa, and Hunter to object to the, "Not in my backyard" policy of not wanting Guantanimo Detainees to be housed in San Diego. They backed the war and now don't want to take responsibility for the fallout. I don't want these people in San Diego either however the Republican controlled government made the decision to go to war with Iraq and now we, the citizens of the United States of America have to pay the price. -- R. Paul

personally i dont think its a good idea that to move those prisoners from guantanmo bay to san diego bases, our president should find another place to put them. we should have san diego free from those people....find a place or build a place in the desert for them...kept san diego terror free!!! -- Christina

Obama said it is time to make tough unpleasant decesions. I don't want negative attention here anymore then any other San Diegan but I think we need to get on track and make good decisions for the world to respecr us again as well as our safety and our morale. -- Jason

Well responding to the prompt Prisoners Moving to San Diego. I believe that this could ruin the face of San Diego. People will think San Diego is dangerous and not worth visiting -- John

While I dont agree with the closing of GITMO, I dont think it should matter where they go as long as they are locked up. I cant imagine anyone wants them to go free and seeing as how we have one of the largest marine bases in the world it should be perfect. -- Brad

I think that obama is making the right choise of transfering those prisioners, it should be safer and we would have space for making some thing else. -- Ernesto

It will be better if we keep our enemies closer. I will definitely feel safe with terrorist here in San Diego. -- Rafael

Its appalling to think that our government would consider putting detainees on our military bases where marines and sailors train everyday. Not only are our service men and women there but also families. We have military housing, stores, schools, and medical buildings on our bases. This just gives the terrorist groups more of an inside on how we run things in our military. Its very disturbing, especially since my husband works at Miramar. They need to keep Guantanamo open for the safety of all Americans. -- Amanda

If prisoners from Guantanamo Bay were to come to San Diego...San Diego will go from "America's Finest City", to "America's Terrorist City." -- Bethany

On the subject of President Obama closing Guantanamo Bay, I think he should reopen Alcatraz and send the detainees there. It used to be a prison, so why not put it to good use? -- Jared

They speak of how it will distract Marines from training. What about the safety of the families that live on base. I worry that having high threat terriosts on Camp Pendleton would make the base a bigger target for a terrorist attack. Living on base that makes me feel uneasy. -- Misty

I strongly disagree to have the terrorist detainees be transferred at camp pendleton. It will bring about the wrong kind of people to san diego and put our families in danger. -- Rochielle

At a time of economic struggles. Bringing terrorists to San Diego will only hurt our tourism. US tax payer money should not be used to take care of these terrorists. Leave them where they are. -- Jim

No, we don't want terror suspects anywhere near our city! In what way will moving terrorists from a secluded prison to our own soil this make our country safer? Is this the hope and change we can believe in? If so, it will be a concerning four years. -- Ryan

Send the Gitmo detainees to Chicago, IL! -- F.G.

History has already shown us that if we let these terrorists go, we have caught them fighting US forces again. So, that's a bad idea. If we bring them here (anywhere in the US) do they get the same rights? Isn't it more expensive to jail people here? (It costs about $40,000 per year.)

I've got it! Let's implode Gitmo. The prisoners are free, if they can get out.

Jill - I'm not a journalist. Criminals of war and terrorists are not considered innocent until proven guilty. In fact, most countries do not have due process for them. It is a bullet to the head. I'm not saying that it is right or wrong. Food for thought, the majority of the ones that have been released from Gitmo have been found on the front lines again with guns pointed at our military personnel.
