We asked for your thoughts about Giselle Flynn's arrest for deserting the Army.
It appears to me that the Army deserted her before she deserted the Army. How can any government entity expect a person to offer their life, (and now their immediate familie's lives)for this country when said entity cannot hold up it's end of the bargain? -- Skip
She absolutely did the right thing. The military has gone too long without taking care of service members families(as well as service members). This just tops the cake. I hope others help this woman.I am researching more stories on similar situations with medical and housing pay as well.It is apolling how sevice members are treated and their families. -- Juliana
The Army deserter is making excuses. I'm a Marine and know all military branches have plenty of child care services available for active duty military personnel. So, I'm not buying any of story. She's a deserter, plain and simple, and deserves the 'big chicken dinner' (bad conduct discharge). -- Greg
I think the outcome of this situation could be anyone of our reaction When it comes down to actually choosing The majority of us would do the same Of course those of you that don't have kids wouldn't understand Im not saying it was right what she did But at that time and moment It probably was the best idea she could come up with. I dont thik she should be charged. -- anonymous
I feel for the woman from the army who went AWOL to care for her children. It amazes me that we can let a drug dealer who escapes prison during her sentence and is found decades later go free....but we can't let someone serving our country care for her children. Go figure...justice at work? -- Ken
I think the army should conduct an investigation into the allegations of her child being abused. If it turns out that what she is saying is true, then the charges against her should be dropped. They should of extended her stay once these allegations came out in order to give her suitable time to find a safe place for her child to stay. -- Justin
The soldiers duty is to protect this country by sacrificing their lives, but it is the duty of the government to protect our soldiers. This is just another example of how our soldiers have not been given what they deserve, a shot at the American dream. -- Ral
In a situation like this I believe any parent would do the same thing for their kids. However, when you are in the military you are under contract for certain amount of years. Therefor, there are consequences for dissapearing without proper legal release of the military. I hope she gets to go home as soon as possible to her family. -- Alexis

I am writing about the story you showed on the mom from El cajon. I think she should be released from jail. I think its ridiculous that the Army wants to punish her almost 10 years later. They should let her live her life. -- Arianna
There must be more to this story that we dont know. The Army is a a commitment that puts someones "life" on hold so she should should have allowed the children to go to CPS while she continued with her piror commitment until it could have worked out. But i cant say i wouldnt do the same as the women did if i was in her shoes. I hope the army can understand and help the women. -- Mike
I am sympathetic with this mother, who's only choice was to desert the army or hand her child over to child protective services. I believe as a mother, protecting your child takes precendence over anything. You're all your child really has, and has no choice but to put his/ her life in your hands. So although there are legal issues at hand, I completely agree with what this woman actions. I think the army should have given her support in order to avoid such a drastic measure. I hope the army will give her a reprieve, considering her position at that time, and accept responsibility in not offering her time off for a family crisis. -- Melody
I don't believe this woman for a minute. There were alot of us in the service that had reason to desert and go home. But most of us stayed. Lock her up, she is not telling the truth. -- James
