We asked about the verdict in the firefighters sexual harassment case.
I am glad the fire firefighters were awarded next to nothing....this case was a waste of taxpayer's money. I hope the City Attorney doesn't appeal, not out of principal, but simply because the case was a waste of money to start with, the jury saw that in their award, and an appeal would again be a waste of money. -- Ken
What happened to the firefighters was uncalled for, but their victory in court is downright embarrassing. Simply participating in a parade cannot cause anxiety and stress-related disorders to four grown men, like they so claim. They wasted time and money to satisfy their own shameless greed. -- Alex
I think the verdict was correct. I think the city leaves themselves open to needless lawsuits allowing such events. What is the purpose of a Gay Pride Parade except a reason to party and act stupid. Have you ever heard of a Straight Pride Parade? -- Charlie
Good for the fireman. Anyone excepts gays know exactly how the guys feel if you have ever gone to that disgusting parade. Gays need to grow up. And the city is stupid if they appeal this for $34,000, they got off cheap. Let's be honest, this would not have happened if we didn't have a lesbian for a Fire Chief and City leaders that will not stand up to gays. -- James
I have a very hard time believing that four firefighters tasked with contributing to orderly conduct in difficult situations couldn't handle this in a different manner. This is an unfortunate waste of taxpayer dollars at a very inopportune time. -- Herb
As a retired firefighter I believe it is almost if not impossible for firefighters riding in the enclosed cab of an engine company with the windows up and wearing headphones that have communications going on between the firefighters in the cab and the dispatch center to hear any communications from spectators of the gay pride parade that are at least twenty feet away. I believe these firefighters are homophobic and were looking for a cash cow and that is why they asked for a million a piece in their first trial. Now to say money was never the issue is an insult to the resonible person standard. Too bad the jury did not see through this scam. Im glad these firefighters do not serve where I live. -- David
I am proud of the jury. It seems to me like cases like this only favor the plantiff when its a minority making the complaint. I think it is ridiculous and unconstitutional that the city made them participate in the parade when it went against thier beliefs. Maybe now employers will listen more and give non minorities a fair right to voice thier opinion and live by thier beliefs without fear of reprisal. -- Brad
I found the whole sexual harassment suit a joke. #1 cat calls are not a threat. #2 you don't hear of an attractive girl suing a construction company for being subjected to threatening cat calls and being embarrassed when they get whistled at walking by a work site. I think it's ridiculous that the firefighters won that case. I find it more than absurd that they said it wasn't about the money, seeing as how they started by trying to get a million dollars each. -- Jason
Am I missing something? Aren't fire fighters supposed to be tough and fearless? They can run into a burning building but can't handle a gay parade? I'll bet FDNY is laughing at us. -- Vince
I think that the whole thing was ridiculous. These firefighters are overreacting from the cat calls! Like they have never done anything like that to a cute girl they see! -- Kelsey
I'm glad the Firefighter won thier case. Sexual harrasment is sexual harrassment period. And those fire fighter were forced to attend or face disciplinary action. I could care less what the monetary award was. The city of San Diego needs to drop it's appeal The city will run up lawyer fee's over 35,000 faster than apying out the settlement. What can the city afford more? -- Douglas
