We asked what you think about the plans for the Sunrise Powerlink.
The Sunrise Power-Link is a $1.9-Billion Fraud. Sempra Energy will do and say anything, and spend millions to build up this scheme. There are NO solar energy generators, there is no sustainable energy in the contract. All the energy will be made in Mexico, using dirty, liquified natural gas, and Taxpayers will pay for the unnecessary infrastructure, which will become the property of SDG&E. Spend just half that amount to weatherize and insulate local homes and small businesses, add renewable generation after that, and you can save enough energy through conservation and efficiency, that you'll never need to build another power-plant. No need for that Sunrise Power-link. As a bonus this plan creates local jobs, and keeps the money local, distributes energy production, and saves the environment. Ask Sempra why they should get $800-million pay-out in the first few years, from energy sold over the Sunrise Power link? When we the people have paid billions for the infrastructure, and will pay perhaps another billion for interest upon the bonds? It is all unnecessary. Why should SDG&E own this infrastructure? If it is paid for by the tax-payers then it should be owned by us, and all the energy profits should go to reduce our taxes, and pay for sustainable energy projects. -- Michael
The EIR stated that it is not needed. SDG&E contributed a lot of $$ to the Governor and guess who pushed this through. Solar on homes like Sacramento Municipal Utility District would work but oh yes that would put SDG&E out of business. -- Bill
Why not use the wind powered towers that generate electricity naturally. The wind is much less expensive and better for the environment. They are used out by Palm Springs area and other places around the country and are very successful. Another though,if the company that makes Sun Chips can use solar panels to operate the entire factory, why can't SDGE use more solar power to produce electricity? The sun is in the sky and doesn't charge people to use it. There are natural sources to generate electricity. Why stick to the old ways when things can be better and produce more electricity than we can use? Maybe because people won't make as much money? Which is more important, the rich getting richer and the rest of us getting poorer, or using what we have? -- Diana
I am a resident of El Monte Valley. If this is built we will have high voltage lines on three sides of this valley with only one way out and that is under the existing high voltage lines on the west end. Can you say Fire Death Trap? -- Bill
To be perfectly realistic, only a handful of El Monte residents were informed of the new power lines comming through. Ive been watching men replace utility lines but had no idea there would be a new set of power lines comming through the entire valley. There are some properties that have survived both recent fire storms, putting power lines would give those that survived the last few times, absolutely no chance of missing the next fire storm. -- Ashlee
