We asked about a plan to cut school programs to save money.
Stop bailouts for big shot failures save our schools. Children need a way to escape. I was one of those that needed music & dance to change my life. After working for the Kings County Juvenile Center I realized then without a way for kids to express themselves in school they turn to crime and violence. Make a change and change the government not our schools. -- Paul
What are the reasons for cutting programs in the arts or athletics? These programs are often life-lines for thousands of students at each high school in San Diego - as a current public high school graduate and current high school teacher, I am testament to that. Cutting these programs are not a budget fix, but are unfortunately an option for CA Education boards because of the simple fact that the programs do not support the CA Education Content Standards. Because of the framework for educational system the state has issued, districts are left with little choice. Should music or sports be cut? Never. Do our districts and board members have a choice? No. The fault lays in the hands of our governing system. It's easy to plea for arts and athletics in the schools. These programs invaluable. The spectators agree, but the rule-makers stand. While our students suffer, those in charge plan their next summer getaway. -- C.
This is really the end. We have money to educate illegal immigrants, medical care for illegals, money for overpaid retiring fire cheifs and police and city employees but no money for school sports or art. This is the end. Mayor Sanders should throw his support behind educating our kids rather than his lesbian daughter and his friends in the *** community. I think the Mayor just came out of the closet, why don't he make it offical and admit that he is a ***. -- James Jolly
It is not fair for the city to take away music classes to save money. Music is somthing that make's us come together. Taking away music would be incredebly devestating to teachers and for students. -- Liam
I hope the school board does not remove any extra curricular programs for these students. Sports, arts, etc are extremely important in student life and taking this away would be a shame. If these programs are taken away, schools would struggle more than they are now and an increase in test scores would drop as well! -- Rachel
I believe that some programs should be cut but not the ones that keeps us kids happy, not the ones that can make our futures brighter. -- Dawn
