Should the state legalize marijuana or will it create more problems than it's worth?
I am a Combat Veteran with PTSD. I find that using medical marijuana is beneficial to myself as well as others suffering from this horrible disorder. I've been prescribed multiple different kinds of drugs from the VA and none of them work. Medical Marijuana does. -- Justin
Legalize it! No matter what; those that smoke it will continue to smoke it and those that dont... probably won't. What's the difference? I don't know about you but I'd rather have my money go to the state for marijuana rather than some drug lord. -- James
Legalization of marijuana usage in the State of California not only bring 1 billion dollar a year revenue to our state but more importantly control the drug trade between Mexico and California. We have seen many massacre and bloodshed over the drug war in Baja, with legalization, our State will not hit the illegal drug trading financially but will also decrease drug related crime. -- Trent
It may be a controversial proposition, but it is better then cutting off sports for public schools and laying off teachers. I say " Give it a shot". -- Cindy
Its about time we utilized the states number 1 cash crop. the state can get some direly needed money plus over crowded jails can be aleviated by decriminalizing drug laws. -- Bryant
Legalize it, even if its ONLY 1.2 billion out of 20+ its better than cutting jobs or getting rid of Del Mar Fair -- Juan
If we legalize marijuana what next?
Cocaine? Methamphetamine?
Where will it end? This is the problem with America we don't stick by our laws we always bend to the majority even if the majority goes against the health and safety of our nation. -- L.
Marijuana should be legalized because it will eliminate the trafficking of illegal drugs and that black market. Any kid of any age that wants it can attain because there are many kids at school who have 'connections', so it would be like with beer. If you want it, you go ahead and have some. But if you're smart enough not to, you're safe and there is no illegal trafficking that's only giving the traffickers money. -- Bekah
I work for a drug and alcohol rehab center. I can tell you that making marijuana legal to gain tax dollars is insane. If we did that then how long would it be untill crack users and meth abusers would say the exact same thing? These folks that promote such absurdity need to get some counseling themselves. -- Carl
The state of California SHOULD legalize marijuana and finally relieve our over-crowded jails and city funds of non-violent drug users. Otherwise law-obiding and productive citizens are sharing facilities with dangerous and violent criminals and only propetuating our already astronomical deficit. If marijuana were taxed and regulated, the only law-breakers would be those who purchase or use the substance under-age, JUST LIKE ALCOHOL. -- Jenna
Dumb, dumb, dumb, just another dumb idea. Only in California. I just realized that I have all my life over estimated the intelligence of our people. -- James
I think if Marijuana was legalized in the state of California it would benefit the people and the government in one way. Receiving income for the debt, and keeping the citizens of Americas finest city, happy. -- E-man
legalize marijuana
Keep cash in government hands, not criminal black maRket -- Scott
I think we should legalize Marijana like we did with Alcohol..it well help with the taxes and Alot of ppl do it already -- 420
The legalization of marijuana will deeply help our California's deficit. A 5 million revenue per year is what we need to jump start California's economy. Making it legal will significantly reduce drug violence in the border. -- Luis
It's about time people start to wake up and realize we have a voice to speak out and give new ideas in how to get ouselves out of this financial mess. Marijuana can bring much healing to california financially without causing harm socialy. -- Lulu
Wether smoking marijuana is right or wrong is not the point. The point is that if you dangle 1 Billion dollars in front of the legislature they will grab it regardless. This should tell you something about our legislature. -- Vince
I am one of the many that smoke. I started to smoke because the medication I was taking was no longer working on me. My husband has also been smoking for a long time and neither one of us has turned to other drugs. It would definately help the budget if it was legalized and taxed. But there is such a stigma attached to it that our government will never legalize it.Too bad the money is there. -- Laurie
If copound drugs are legal then there is no problem in legalizing marijuana, just look at all the side affects on any over the counter drugs, it says it all. -- Ruby
Marijuana does worst things than alcohol and tobacco do. The state would be stupid not to legalize it. -- Norma
i feel that marijuana SHOULD be legal in the great state of California. nevada has legalized gambling. with marijuanas profit and revinue,it would help out our economy. if controled right it could be safe and good for california. i feel that aclhohol has is more of a drug than marijuana. alchohol has a stronger effect on the brain. there are more achohol ralated accidents than there are marijuana related.
LEGALIZE IT!!! -- Joseph
I am a 40yr old, ex-navy disabled 30%, married 19 yrs, with 2 kids, and hold down a 6 figure job. I have been using MMJ for over a year now and it has been the best thing for me. I have stopped taking 8 pain pills, beta blockers, and meds for my sleeping disorder! Legalization is the next logical step. Yes there could be social impact but anymore or any less than alcohol or tobacco? Marijuana has been proven over and over again to be safer than Alcohol and Tobacco so why are they legal? Why not legalize something that will have a huge impact on our society with helping our deficit while at the same time help people that need it. Not to even mention all the other benefits from fuel, food, and clothing! -- Jim
Legalizing pot is OK but it needs a higher minimum age limit than alchohol, and stricter laws to govern it. -- Coreen
