Horse Racing

Another horse has died at the Del mar racetrack.  We asked for your thoughts.

Horse racing is nothing more than cruelty. Horses are used and abused to make money for their owners. It doesn't matter what kind of track they run on when the horses are too young and not fully developed. -- Bob

As a horse owner of 42 years, who also started babies for the track, I absolutely agree with Mr. Hess. The Horse industry as a whole has gravitated toward big bodied horses with spindly legs, which just doesn't support the body mass. I also think a traditional well groomed track, far outweighs any synthetic track, any day. -- Joann

How many horses have to be killed before they fix the problem. This is not fare to them. Who really represents them. These gentle giants need to be givin more respect. -- David

I can't believe they are allowing so many horses so be injured and put down without doing a thing about it. This is completely wrong. Do something about it! -- Logan

In life there are risks. The same holds true for horse racing. For that matter just about any other sport. The care and feeding of a race horse is second to none. They do what they love - and that is run. Show the same misguided care for the homeless, the children, and all those people suffering in the world and than and only should you worry about horse racing. -- Buster

Horse racing needs to be outlawed. It is cruel to the animals to live in a small stall, only to be brought out to race, whipped with a crop, for the greed of human beings. It needs to go the route of dog racing. Any person who makes money out of animal cruelty should be "humanely euthanized". -- Diana

Just WRONG. Since when did we decide it's okay to breed for speed AT ALL COSTS? Have we no decency? Watching horses fall like dominoes turns Horse Racing into a blood sport... CHANGE IT - DO RIGHT BY THESE EXTRAORDINARY ANIMALS. The days are over when we treat animals like THINGS. Get a clue, please. -- Cdin

Shame on Joe Harper! Is this not as sad as what Michael Vick did? Shame on him and anyone that supports horse racing! -- Deb

Baseball players and performance drugs. Horses breeded for our pleasure. Let the madness continue. Kidding!!! -- Tony
