This week, Your Family Matters is on the road at Disneyland for the opening of the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. The day began with excitement as celebrities, such as Brooke Shields, Courtney Cox, Kobe Bryant, Geena Davis Denise Richards, and others made a splash alsong the "Sea Blue" arrival carpet. Pictures of the event will follow shortly as I upload throughout the day and evening and tomorrow. Ruben will be shooting live tomorrow morning from the park giving our viewers a first hand look at this awesome ride. I will be boarding one of the first subs with my kids in just over an hour.
This new attraction, a major highlight of the Year of a Million Dreams celebration at Disneyland, takes its inspiration from the over-the-top entertainment experiences-the worldwide smash-hit Disney-Pixar motion picture Finding Nemo. and the fondly remembered classic Disneyland Submarine Voyage that opened in 1959. The original Submarine Voyage was retired in 1998, but the submarine lagoon has remained in Tomorrowland.
"Only Disney can bring life to a whole new way beloved characters from one of the most popular animated movies in a classic Disneyland attraction", said Jay Rasulo, Chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "The marriage of innovative technology with great storytelling has created a one-of-a-kind immersive experience that will surely astound guests".
The Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage will feature eight original submarines from the Disneyland Submarine Voyage fleet, completely rebuilt and modernized. As members of the sub crew, guests will embark on an expedition to the site of an erupting undersea volcano. Soon after departure, they will find themselves in the world of Finding Nemo, with Nemo getting into the swim of things right alongside the submarine.
Nemo and company are able to go along for the ride thanks to a stunning new imaging technology developed exclusively for this attraction by Walt Disney Imagineering, the creative arm for all Disney parks and resorts. The Finding Nemo characters appear exactly as they do in the film, but in a real, three-dimensional underwater setting-with no special viewing glasses required.
"We are lietrally bringing the undersea world of the popular Finding Nemo movie off the screen and into the submarine lagoon of Tomorrowland", says Tom Fitzgerald, Executive Vive President and Senior Creative Executive for Walt Disney Imagineering. "Guests will be immersed into an adventure that will leave them in disbelief, asking, "How did they do that?".
Along with the improved unique underwater technology, the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage will feature fully sculpted Audio-Animatronics characters, including scuba divers and the scavenging seagulls from Finding Nemo, complete with their call of Mine! Mine Mine!
Throughout the voyage, guests will view astonishingly colorful undersea environments-thanks to Imagineering-developed technology that creates eye-popping custom colors from recycled glass, resulting in deeper, richer hues that last longer under water. After surviving a sub-shaking volcanic eruption, the subs will dive alongside a breathtaking beautiful coral reef where Marlin, Nemo and all their friends gather to celebrate finding Nemo at last.
This ride is a great one for the entire family. Pictures are uploaded and the full set can be seen by clicking on my Photo Gallery.
