Jesus taught in parables, simple, memorable “stories with a message.” Whether used to provoke thought and encourage questions or to wrap God in tantalizing mystery (the debate rages on), His parables stirred the imagination, living on first in oral tradition then in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke.
As the United Church of Christ of La Mesa (UCCLM) embarks upon an exciting new Summer Worship Experience featuring two services, one traditional, one “not so much,” the parables of Jesus will take center stage. Whether presented with the familiar trappings of tradition or the excitement of contemporary music and an informal worship style, they will stir mind, heart and soul.
The people of UCCLM invite you to join them and Pastors Félix C. Villanueva and Mary Sue Brookshire on a voyage of discovery starting July 5, 2009, their two-part Summer Worship Experience. Everyone is welcome!
The traditional service will be held in the Sanctuary at 9:00am, the non-traditional one in Friendship Hall at 11:00am. A “Coffee and Cookie Connection” fellowship time will link the two, starting at 10:15am. Sunday School classes and nursery care will be available.
UCCLM is located at 5940 Kelton Avenue, La Mesa, CA 91942 (619-464-1519, www.ucclm.org, pastorfelix@cox.net).
