The West Coast Funnies with Kurt Swann, the self-proclaimed
nation’s premiere comedy variety show. The show combines the sketch comedy
aspects of Saturday Night Live with a
Daily Show type current events
newscast, this surrounds the show’s centerpiece of top-notch professional stand
up comedy; all presented in Tonight Show
type talk show presentation. The comedians that have appeared on the show now in its 6th year of
production are a veritable who’s who of hilarious funny people. (Including Last
Comic Standing winners Alonzo Bodden, Dat Phan and comics from The Tonight Show
and Letterman) This month’s show features the award winning, show
creator/director Lamont Ferguson.
Ferguson who admits to not
working very often in the United States
does carry a very rich pedigree when it comes to stand up. He won the
prestigious Seattle International Comedy Competition and was a finalist in the
San Francisco International Comedy Competition. (An accomplishment he shares
with the likes of Robin Williams, Ellen DeGeneres, Rob Schneider, and Dana
Carvey) He was named LA’s Hottest Comic by KMPC radio in Los
Angeles. Lamont’s a highly requested guest on radio
talk shows including San Diego’s
KFMB. He’s appeared on Comedy Central and Comics Unleashed. He’s also had the
distinction of being one of the only comedians to be selected to open for all of the following comedians: Bill
Cosby, George Lopez, Garry Shandling, Steve Harvey, and the late great George
Carlin.
Also appearing is Karen Rontowski (Comedy
Central)
Also
appearing on each show is the sketch group called the Pearl St. Players. The group that originally got its start
over ten years ago at the World Famous Comedy Store in La Jolla, Ca.
<Located on Pearl St. by the way> Some of the original members of that
group have gone onto become some of Hollywood’s brightest young stars- Mad
TV’s Bobby Lee, The Tonight Show’s Shayma Tash and
Emmy Award winning writer on Late Night with Conan O’Brien
Mike Komen. Now a new crop of funny
people hope to continue that tradition.
